Student Council is the student leadership body at the middle school. Delegates are elected by their classmates and work closely with staff and faculty to plan activities and events at the middle school.
Student Council is open to all middle school students in 5th - 8th grade. Students hold elections to select each class' student delegates. The election process is usually the second week of school and includes campaigning, posters, speeches and more. The student body votes on two delegates from each class, 5th-8th grade, that they would like to represent them in the Student Council. In addition to the class delegates, students vote for an 8th grade president and vice-president to preside over Student Council. There is also an officer position in 7th grade in charge of committees.
Student Council meetings are held once a week at lunch during the beginning of the year while activities are planned for the calendar year. As the year progresses, the council meetings are held less frequently, typically every other week in the 3rd quarter and monthly in the 4th quarter. Each council delegate chooses a committee to work on. Examples include sign committee, snack bar committee, Talent Show committee and Spirit Days.
Student Council holds a weekly snack bar with special snacks students can buy. Proceeds benefit the Do Something projects and other community service projects. Additionally, the student council sponsors the spring talent show and quarterly Spirit Days. Past Spirit Day themes have included Star Wars Day, Pajama Day, Duck Dynasty Day, Cartoon Character Day, Sports Day, Cowboy vs. Alien Day, Crazy Hair and Sock Day, and Decades Day.
